Jimmy at Lulu’s / Gulf Shores Alabama

I happened to be watching some Will Kimbrough videos on YouTube when I stumble across this video of Jimmy stealing a moment with friends at his sister’s restaurant in Gulf Shores. It’s a great place to visit if your in the area, and you just might accidentally show up at the same time Jimmy does. How cool would that be?

If I had to guess, the person who shot this video did it on the sly, because Jimmy seems oblivious to anyone taping him. So what you see here is Bubba in his natural state put to some pretty cool music. Enjoy

Thanks to “GulfShoresLocal” whoever you are…Nice Work.

Guy Clark – “Hollywood”

Hollywood Goes Down Like Honey – Hollywood Taste Like Money

An Interview with Guy Clark

L.A. Freeway

Guy came out of the blue for me. In the past few weeks, his name kept coming up. Giving me pause and asking, “Where in the Hell have I been? How did I ever miss this Guy?

I know I’ve seen and heard him, but I guess I just wasn’t paying attention. Damn!

When I think back to my waterskiing years (so many years ago), I seem to remember crowded days on The River (that would be the Colorado River) when the river was full of boats trying to beat the heat of the day. Some times it was hard to deferential between all the wakes; merging together as they’re prone to do.

So, as we look at how Jimmy Buffett’s World has effected some of us, here’s an example of other people’s wakes merging with Jimmy’s:

In Johnny Cash’s autobiography Cash, he admitted “I don’t listen to music much at the farm, unless I’m going into songwriting mode and looking for inspiration. Then I’ll put on something by the writers I’ve admired and used for years (Rodney Crowell, John Prine, Guy Clark, and the late Steve Goodman are my Big Four)…

So, these wakes merging, is kind of like the Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon, or the Seinfeld episode when “George’s World’s Collide.” Let’s take a look at the four gentlemen that were such a big part of Jimmy’s life that Johnny Cash eluded to:

Rodney Crowell

Rodney wrote “Stars On the Water”

John Prine

John, Jimmy & Steve Goodman spent a lot of time together

Guy Clark

Steve Goodman

Steve was a close friends of Jimmy’s and he covered a number of Steve’s songs including

“Where’s The Party” / “This Hotel Room” / “Down to the Banana Republics”

Steve’s “How Much Tequila Did I Drink Last Night” – I’m surprised Jimmy never recorded a cover of this song
